Trees thought to be extinct found in Latin America

Today, they are now replaced by a vast urban area. On the outskirts, however, there is agricultural land and sugar cane cultivation.

For the first time Pernambuco was described in the late 30s of the XIX century biologist of Scottish origin George Gardner. Until now, Gardner’s herbarium was the only evidence that the holly he discovered actually existed.
